Write that essay

 The ‘ing’ sentence

Use the -ing version of the verb e.g to run-running

Remember the rule: When you finish your -ing phrase, place a comma then write the rest of the sentence.

Some -ing words- listening, watching, running, emerging, grasping, speaking, analysing, signaling, exposing, gossiping, acknowledging.

Examples: Realising the danger, people fled from the cities. Shaking away the nerves, he walked towards the microphone. Acknowledging the speaker, he bowed his head in silence.

Speaking quietly, I hope that the others can’t hear me.

Watching I gasp in horror, as the jump scare comes on the screen.

Acknowledging the teacher, I look up from my work to make eye contact.

Running past the finish line, I fall down as my legs ache

The ‘ed’ sentence

Use the ed version of the verb e.g to jog-jogged. This makes for a punchy start to your sentence.

Remember the rule: When you finish your ‘ed’ phrase, place a comma, then write the rest of the sentence.

Some ed words - frustrated, surprised, excited, committed, undaunted, determined, overpowered, concerned, delighted, enthralled.
